It's a Classic tragedy for a reason. It's very accessible literature and whose pain is felt through out the ages. My favourite lines are "therefore we must call no man happy while he waits to see his last day, not until he has passed the border of life and death without suffering pain." This illustrates how baseless envy and idealizations can be when we can never know for sure about someone's fate and character. However I feel like there wasn't enough depth in the characters and their relationships, if we had witnessed scenes in domestic setting maybe the end would've been more jarring.

Well that was intense.

"... let none presume on his good fortune until he find life, at his death, a memory without pain."

Quite the connection Freud made between the knowledge of oracles and the subconscious. Complacency stands defeated and indicted in front of them both.

This was beautifully ironic .

Even though I was well aware of everything that happened in the play , reading it was a transformative experience. It was gripping and melancholic in the best way possible .

Also , I gotta say that everyone in Thebes shared 1 braincell ( Jocasta’s )
