The pencils, inks, and colors are great. Otherwise, don’t waste your time.

Miller and Romita Jr treat us is to an original origin story that moves from small moments to big ones. It sets up the world of Miller's Dark Knight (at least that's how I read it). I have returned to Miller's fan base as he's moved past his, not so sane phase in the early '00s.

I like this updating of the Superman origin. It has enough of the older elements to be somewhat familiar, but with enough new to it that it was full of surprises. I hope there is a volume 2 or Year Two or whatever. I enjoyed this a great deal.

This is a weird one. It seemed like it kept grasping at having something compelling to say, but kept coming up short. I really enjoyed the JRJR artwork and thought he did a bang-up job on the whole thing. Not sure what Miller was going for here, but it just didn’t work for me. The inner monologue just droned on and made each episode just feel much longer than they needed to be. I generally prefer Miller when both writes and draws (Hard Boiled and Give Me Liberty being the exceptions), but this just felt clunky. The first chapter about his younger years didn’t feel like it had anything new or interesting to say and just took way too long. Superman joining the military was an interesting idea, but when it devolved into a generic Atlantis story, I completely lost interest. The last chapter felt closest to the Year One concept, but, once again was inferior to recent early Superman stories and didn’t have anything new to add to the mythos.

Kinda split into three sections. Some of the characters felt a little ... strange. The dialog was rather meh. The stories were uneven - there were some good sections, though, but sometimes a little jumpy between segments. General fight scenes did seem a bit pointless at times. There were some great shots of superman in various scenes, quite vivid.

Dejalo y releete Birthright.

the colours are absolutely beautiful in this, but that's... pretty much the only good thing i have to say about it

the whole military section was a complete waste of time & the metropolis section was beyond rushed. batman has a gun? wonder woman & superman fall in love in a span of 15 mins, meanwhile clark already has girlfriends he's left behind in every area code? and what is with all the trump references...

a very poor choice for my first superman read, i grabbed it without much thought during a quick trip to the library. thankfully the general consensus seems to be that this is garbage. so i'm going to choose to forget about this one & actually research where i should start out for next time
