Mini Review

The Friend Face Off by Grace Worthigton

This is the third book in the Love on Thin Ice Series but it can be read as a standalone. Once you get started reading a book by Grace Worthington you don’t want to put it down.  I loved Emmy. She was a sweetheart who had put others before herself. She’s a lover of books who also has a secret BookTok. She’s convinced no guy can be as romantic as the ones in her books.  Then we have Dawson, her brother’s best friend who’s determined to win Emmy over. I absolutely loved Dawson. He never gives up on his love for the girl of his dreams.  This town is so fun I love small town romances.  We have so many tropes in this one to name a few : He falls first, brother’s best friend, small town romance, & he will always be there for her (in the best protective guy kind of way.). Some other things I loved were the dating pact, she may have a crush but he definitely falls harder,  picnic’s on ice, motorcycle rides, & so many fun dates.  Guys could have a talk with Dawson if they want some dating advice. The book scenes with Emmy and Dawson will just give your own heart butterflies. And everyone could use a Mimi in their lives. Definitely go grab a copy of this one to add to your bookshelf or kindle.

This was soo good!! This will have you swooning and wishing you had your own Dawson! Friends to lovers, kisses only and all the feels!!! Highly recommended to anyone who loves a good romance. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. But I do recommend reading the others because you’ll get attached to all the people!

Hockey romance

All the makings for a spectacular book. Emmy is a small town bookstore worker, dreaming of being an author while taking care of her aging grandmother. She’s also cynical about love and the perfect man not existing, thanks to unrealistic expectations in romance novels. 4 years ago she made a silly pact with her brother’s best friend that when Emmy was 25 and still single and needed a date, Dawson would be there for her. But it’s silly to expect that your brother’s friend, who is drafted to the NHL would keep that promise, especially when he’s constantly photographed with gorgeous woman. Except Dawson never forgot that pact and now that he’s conveniently back in town for a charity hockey game, there’s nothing stopping him from following through with their pact.

This is a sweet story that was easy to read in one day and had me kicking my feet and giggling all the way through. There is 0 spice but honestly, that’s kind of refreshing.
Thank you Net Galley and the publishers for this ARC.

The Friend Face off: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Emmy challenged the TikTok world to prove to her that hockey players could be as romantic as book boyfriends. She didn’t expect that the one to prove this theory would be her brothers friend, Dawson. Dawson has loved Emmy since her brother told him to keep an eye on her at a party and hasn’t looked back since. He sets out to prove to Emmy that he can meet her every expectation for a book boyfriend. First step, learn everything he can about her, starting with joining her book club and taking copious notes from the books they read. Dawson is determined to prove to Emmy that he is the perfect man for her if it takes him a lifetime.

Grace has once again written an amazing book boyfriend who sets the bar for all men IRL. Good luck men. Emmy is a character with one major flaw, self doubt, and lack of self worth when it comes to dating and men. I love that Dawson doesn’t make her wrong, he just proves to her that she is what is best for him. The little things that Dawson does for her made me aww every time. I was pretty much cackling from start to finish with this book, it was such a fun, hilarious, cute read. This is part of the Love on Thin Ice series, and I can’t wait to read the rest of them.

I got this arc for an honest review. I love a good hockey romance as I fell in love with the sport when I moved to Canada. There were some inconsistencies when it came to how the NHL runs and the story in this book. I also did not know this was part of a series so I was confused when we were introduced to characters I had never heard of. I also didn’t connect with the characters and felt they didn’t have much chemistry which made me soft dnf for a week. I picked up the book to finish my obligation to the author.

I don’t usually give low reviews but this one was not for me I gave it 2.75 ⭐️ and negative 🌶️ because it was a close door/ clean romance and I usually like a little spice in my romance.

This book was not for me but that does not mean you shouldn’t see for yourself you may enjoy it.

Happy reading everyone 📚

The Friend Face Off is a romance between an introverted bookstore employee and her brother’s pro NHL teammate. I love a good hockey romance, but unfortunately this was more of a collection of cliches than a fully formed book. I wish the characters and plot had more depth however everything from the plot to the romance stayed very surface level.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series until I came here to leave a review so I can say that you can read it as a stand-alone.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This story was a sweet read from the start, and I enjoyed getting to know these characters. I liked that Emmy and Dawson had met before, they already had a bit of a connection, a friendship, even though it had been a while since they'd spent time together, you could feel that pull. There's fun with their friendship, and the build up kept the pages turning. Definitely a read to curl up with to relax and shut out the world. It's part of a multi author collection and I will be adding those to my to be read list as well!

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Emmy & Dawson’s points of view

Review:

I adored this brother’s best friend romance! I loved that Dawson wanted to do all he could to win Emmy’s heart and was willing to take notes on book boyfriends’ gestures for her. I loved that Emmy tried her best to barricade her heart from what she thought would be sure heartbreak, but of course that didn’t go as planned. I also loved the book club members and especially Mimi’s mischievous nature throughout! XD

Summary:

Emmy lives in Maple Falls and loves her life there beyond the unwanted advances from her workplace owner’s son. The only problem is that Maple Falls is small and not known for its eligible bachelors. Her only options to find someone would be to leave, find a date online, or entertain falling for one of the hockey guys coming for the charity team. Though the last option really isn’t one with how her hockey player brother warned her against a relationship with any hockey player years ago. Though the only person who could make Emmy possibly defy her brother’s wishes also happens to be his best friend… and one of the players coming for the charity team…

Dawson fell for his best friend’s sister when he first met her, but thought Emmy hated him. Now that he’s back in Maple Falls, Dawson is determined to shoot his shot and show Emmy how much he cares for her. Even if it means taking lessons from her favorite book boyfriends to give him an extra boost…
