The facts were interesting. I could have done with fewer speculative statements about how Sarah may have felt. Desperately needed an editor for flow and phrasing. Some smaller examples: author writes of one figure being given a great job as a "plumb job" when it should be "plum job". William Kidd is described as "anguishing" in Newgate rather than "languishing." Also, was it really necessary to include the entirety of Captain Kidd's own narrative of his allegedly piratical voyage?

Two thoughts:
1. I hate pirates and all stories about them. Especially all the romance surrounding it
2. The lengths a man will go just to fulfill his own ego is not shocking but still frustrating to hear about…

For those wondering about my “speed-reading,” the last 60 pages are bibliography. As for the book itself, I kind of enjoyed learning about Captain Kidd’s wife Sarah but found the speculative nature of the account annoying. “She might have seen this.” “She may have felt this way.” “She must have done this.” It just felt like barely enough information to write “The Pirate’s Wife.” Ultimately, I’d rather have read a well-researched historical fiction book about her and Kidd’s (doomed) romance instead.

A little too slow in the middle/end. I guess maybe I was disappointed by the ending too. Although being based on a true story that can’t change. Just kind of a sad story as a whole. The beginning was so interesting/inspiring though!
Super hard to rate this one. The writing was terrible. But the overall story was fascinating. As is probably the case for many people, I'm much more familiar with the pirates in the Caribbean than I am with those that based out of New York or Boston. And I'm even less familiar with their wives. It was interesting to learn about women in the late 17th century. Honestly I learned more about Captain Kidd than I did about Sarah Kidd, but that was also interesting. Overall, the book would have benefitted immensely from a more thorough editing. Or maybe any editing. Phrases were reused far too often, things didn't flow naturally, some stories were randomly dropped in.

Interesting story about Sarah Kidd. I didn’t enjoy the authors writing style.
