This one was good. I was grabbed pretty quickly but I did feel like it dragged a bit in the middle. But the character exploration was great. Interesting to see a very modern exploration of being a young black woman. I really liked digging into Edie’s psyche but I wished the author would’ve given a little more about  Rebecca’s reasons for agreeing to opening their marriage and how they came to adopt Akila.

A very interesting book with a lot of imperfect characters and complicated relationship. The main character was hard to relate to for me but so interesting to follow and see how the hardships of her life has formed her. No characters in the story are good but that is also what makes the story fascinating. There are lot if description of violence and racism. The story is very dark and negative in tone. I liked it but weren't fully invested. Will probably think about this story for a while.
