Loved the atmosphere of the novel, but from what everybody says about it I was expecting it to be more evidently sapphic. I don't know if I would call Carmilla a "lesbian vampire", if there can even be such a thing since, as described in the conclusion, a vampire's fascination with certain people is determined by their desire to consume them, and therefore not really a form of love. That being said there definitely was a sapphic undertone, especially since the two people who are Carmilla's victims are both girls.

I listened to the Re: Carmilla adaptation and would highly recommend it as a full-cast, true-to-text adaptation. There were also a lot of familiar voices in the cast that I recognized from various other podcasts. Sasha Sienna narrating as Laura was a nice surprise, along with the brief cameos from Jonathan Sims, David Ault and Graham Rowat

This was the stuff my gothic dreams are made of. I totally understand the hype now, and why this book inspired the vampire gothic genre and the influential Dracula. The language is gorgeous and haunting, the vibes atmosphericc dream-like, and isolated—I swear you can feel the fog rolling off the page. And the tension between the Carmilla and Laura is filled with so much overwhelming intensity, it’ll make you gasp. Overall, classic horror and gothic fans—don’t sleep on this one!
