I think classical literature just isn’t for me 🤣 I think because it’s written in old English I find it difficult to connect with characters and story. I can appreciate that it’s a classic but idk.

Completely captivated by this book. More lesbian than you would imagine in 1871. A page turner until the end, when I found myself extremely disappointed by the sudden conclusion. You can’t judge an old book by modern standards, but Le Fanu misses out on action and emotional resolution. Laura and Carmilla have no final words, there is no final fight, no struggle at all. And Laura’s processing of the events left me wanting. Regardless, it’s easy to see why this has inspired centuries of vampire stories and media. Thoroughly enjoyed!!

I really enjoyed this! I would love to see a Carmilla movie. The tragic element, the sapphic feel -- there is a lot of depth one could add to the story by just adding detail and vision. Dracula who.
J'ai adoré. J'avais entendu parler de la relation entre Laura et Carmilla, mais je ne m'attendais pas à une histoire aussi ouvertement saphique. Je trouve que ça se lit assez facilement. Si j'avais à adresser une critique, j'aurais tendance à dire que la fin m'a légèrement laissée sur ma faim, mais elle n'a pas gâchée le plaisir de la lecture en elle-même

I'm glad I read this in the context after having recently read (and loved) Hungerstone and Dracula, but I'm not sure its the kind of book for which I can give a review? It was interesting to have read but it wasn't in and of itself an amazing book.
