Of course this plot setup is just my cup of tea. I've probably read a dozen books with a similar setup in the past 6 months. Luckily I don't seem to tire of them.... especially when they're well written like this one.
Something always causes the heroine to leave her past behind and redefine herself in a small town (or in the country). In this case, Annie catches her husband having sex with a young waitress in their restaurant. After leaving him and the restaurant behind, she ends up as a caretaker of a small historic house (and cafe) on the sea coast somewhere near Cornwall.
It is definitely more genre/women's fiction than romance, although there is definitely an HEA. But it's more about Annie redefining herself and her life, along with portraits of the characters in this tiny town. I enjoyed the characters, including Annie and John, and loved the house. I desperately want to live there!

This was a really cosy, light read. Ideal for the winter months.
I really enjoyed the small town setting and the characters residing there. The book club element was fun too.
I think there are tons of people who would enjoy this book. For me, it was just too long and predictable. But that's personal taste. I know this would be the perfect feel good read for lots of people.
Thank to Jenny Bayliss, NetGalley & Pan Mac Millan for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book isn't bad it's just a bit too ordinary. The setting and town are cute and there's a bunch of "quirky" characters in the town and all the town festivities are fun but I feel like Willow Bay is somewhere that I'd want to live rather than read about. The characters are all likeable but they're all just a bit boring. My favourite part of the book was definitely the book club though, those scenes were really funny (the dildo named Mr. Knightley lol).
A light and charming holiday read. It was quick and easy but full of deep characters and backgrounds.

My second book of hers and this one was boring. She does a beautiful job at describing the setting. It *feels* like you’re there. Thank goodness for John and Mr. McKnightly for saving the book.

This was a cute easy read (or listen). I loved the witty characters and was laughing out loud at parts. I loved how Bayliss paints the scene so vividly. You can just picture yourself there, looking out over the water, feeling the cutting cold winds, and smelling the savory food at the pub. And their book club-I want to be a member! This a good, light hearted story of starting over.
