- the first 500 pages were really boring, and the only thing that kept me going was the characters and the romance plot.

- i liked the end a lot because jace, clary, magnus, tessa, jem, and alec visited. if they decide to come back in the second book, i will love it a lot more!

- i still recommend this series because emma carstairs is one of my favorite characters. she’s gorgeous and funny and really good at fighting. julian is also my baby!

Sometimes she thought the only things she had faith in were revenge and Julian

Emma with her hair down was one of the first things he’d ever wanted to paint.

He was beautiful. The most beautiful thing she had ever seen.

I love everything about you, Emma. I love the way I can recognize your footsteps in the hall outside. No one else walks or breathes or moves like you do. I didn’t want to love you like this. But I can’t stop. Believe me, I’ve tried.

Why all these paintings of you? Because I’m an artist, Emma. These paintings are my heart. And if my heart was a canvas, every square inch would be painted over with you.

After finishing chain of gold earlier this month I was feeling nostalgic about Emma and Julian, hence the reread. I forgot how much I love this series! Lady Midnight had adventure, murder, mystery, romance and very well-rounded secondary characters.

Agh this book was so good. Loved it! I loved how all the characters even minor characters were given lots of backstory. I think I love the characters more than the actual storyline.

“Being told that it is forbidden does not kill love. It strengthens it.”

this was brilliant. the relationship between julian and emma was just so well-curated. i always love reading that progression from friends, well in this case parabatai, to lovers. although, it was pretty abrupt at places, julian and emma going from the domestic familiarity of friends and parabatai to the forbidden and calm yet thrilling nature of lovers was just great.

the plot, too, existed for the first time ever in a clare work. the entire premise just didn’t depend on the characters itself or their development and bonds. the turns clare took were interesting and had me hooked.

Magical, as usual. The parabatai thing is really depressing tho

Initially it took me some time to get into Lady Midnight, getting used to the new characters but once things kicked in, then it really went somewhere. I'm unhealthily obsessed with Mark and Kieran and need more from them. I also cannot wait to see what's going to happen with Kit. My only negative is that I feel like Church should have appeared more.
