Holy freaking frick I love this series so far! I have absolutely devoured the first two books but have decided that I won't do a full review until I pick up the physical books and reread the series (possibly when the third book comes out?)
I love love loved the audiobooks but I don't think my half-assed listening skills would do a review justice.
If you've been eyeing off the series though, absolutely check them out!

I was not emotionally prepared for this book. I can't remember having such a strong, visceral response to a YA book since reading Mockingjay a decade ago. I consider having any kind of emotional response a compliment to the author on not only the quality of their writing but to the deliberate lead up to the situation, the character development and investment established prior to such a scene, etc. This book made me physically ill with tension for an extended period of time over the course of the latter parts, especially during a few specific moments (only one of which was during the actual climactic ending scene).
The pacing was a little bit slow in the beginning, and I wish that certain characters had been a little more (or less) involved based on my own interests. I'm also a WEE BIT torn because I feel that a lot of the 'losses' or 'setbacks' of the book ended up not holding the gravity they might otherwise have done due to other plotlines making them irrelevant or things changing just in time. That is, there's a lot of egocentric thinking leading to the main two hurting everyone around them only for something to overshadow the terrible things they did and make everyone forgive them. Everyone gets their own agency, no one saves anyone, and everyone suffers for it in a way.
And yet I love slow burn angst in the ship department, so I'm 100% there for that, lololol. Also, I love the slang and the magic system.

This book was not it. There were too many sub-plots which sometimes made me forget what the story was supposed to be about (like what was up with the stock market thing? It was completely uneccessary - the book would've been better without it.) . Enne's character changed a lot since the first book and I didn't like it. She became a 'she wears pink and she can kill you' type of girl. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with this archetype but I felt like this wasn't the same Enne I read about in the last book. I expected to see more of how she struggles to still completely to fit in, but there was little to no mention of her past self.
Jac and the ending saved this book for me. Jac is such and interesting character and I am glad that we got to see much more of him(I loved how his past addiction to lullaby was brought up and that his motivators were his and not levi's) . And the ending was immaculate. I went through 500 pages of disappointment however, the last 100 pages were amazing.
Would I reread this book? Absolutely no. Am I going to read the last volume? Yes.
