I'm so happy I read this book by Myah Ariel because I loved it. When I think of you is a very touching story about a young woman who gets an unexpected chance to push her life forward and takes it while navigating the tough path of healing from an old heartbreak.
I really loved how focused the book was on the film industry and the line of work of the characters. It shows the author is really passionate about the industry or did a lot of research on how it works. It was great as an outsider to learn more about how this field may work.
I also really enjoyed reading the story of Minnie and Nathan within the book. It felt like I was getting two stories in one.
The side characters in this book were very fleshed out (except for maybe Eric but I don't mind haha). The story clearly follows Kaliya (mostly) and then Danny, but it was good to read a book with a wide cast of characters who had their own identifiable personalities, interests, and career aspirations.
Celine girl, I was rooting for you. I tried so much to put myself in your shoes and I was really empathizing with you until you went and did some sus things. *Sigh* It didn't take away from the story in my opinion but I was really hoping her story and actions would take a different path.
I really love Kaliya. She and I are in similar life stages and this story follows her from freshmen year of college to this point - all times in my life I still remember vividly and can relate to. I understand the rollercoaster of graduating college with so much hope for your life and being served an unsavory fate by reality. It's really rough and I'm so proud of her for how, even after life beat her down, she still tried to keep some level of hope alive and I really think that sustained her until she was able to reconnect with that pure optimism she had when she was younger. It was so lovely to see.
Before I read this book, I saw a couple of reviews on it and a recurring complaint was about the main characters not being able to communicate well. I'll admit, at certain points I had that same complaint, but then I really thought about it and it is realistic. Communication is hard, even as an adult, and as someone who is still developing that skill everyday, it is very believable to me how it can take the characters that long to figure it out lol.
This book touches on a lot of other important issues like prejudice, privilege, friendship and grief amongst others. Although I didn't say much about these, I feel the book touched on these very well and it was great to read about. It was also great to experience things from the perspectives of those that suffered and benefitted from these themes and seeing practical ways that those in a more favorable position were able to help or use their resources to help others.
This book was very inspiring to and for me. I am very grateful to Myah Ariel for writing this story. And thanks to Kaliya, I am going to strive to be a girl that dreams big and lives big too.

This book was such a good emotional ride, and I found myself laughing, crying, smiling and overall satisfied with this read. I loved both the FMC & MMC & their endless eagerness to try to be together once they’ve both knew that it was their mutual desire to do so, despite all of the circumstances that got in the way of them doing so in the past. It’s a wonderful second love story in that you realize along with the characters that sometimes you have to get out your own way to get what you want , both personally and professionally. It’s also a good lesson on how grief can change someone emotionally and how you endlessly seek to continue to make that person you lost proud. I also really liked the insight we got into the film industry, that was a really nice touch. Overall, this was one of my fave romance reads of the year. 😊

Well I just found my new favorite author, I loved this book so much. Kaliya leaps off the page and the supporting characters, especially the relationship with her roommate Neha, are vital to the heart of the story.

It’s been awhile since I read a book where the dialog was so authentic and the characters so grounded that I felt as though I knew them. I’m going to be thinking about this story for a long time.

This is one of my favorite book covers but the story left me wanting more. I'm writing this review immediately after finishing the book. I'll plan on updating the review if my feelings change after I've had time to let things marinate.
The pacing of this book was slow. I loved the scene that took place in the cinema class Danny and Kaliyah took. It felt like a strong beginning for a connection. I struggled to feel the depth of that connection and I'm not sure if it's because the snippets were told as flashbacks.
I was not a fan of the number of failure-to-launch the lead characters' relationship took but I thoroughly respect what Kaliyah was in search of. I enjoyed the read overall but found myself pulled by Minnie and Nathan's love story and wanting to read that lol. Maybe as I let this marinate, I'll figure out why I wasn't completely wrapped up in Kaliyah and Danny's love story...

The ending made up for the very frustrating third act break-up.
