If you have read Reel by Kennedy Ryan, 7 Days in June by Tia Williams, Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan, The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert, or even The Art of Scandal by Regina Black (on my TBR) please go read this one. It is so beyond good and had me drowned in it the entire time.
This second chance romance set in NYC and Hollywood is a single POV story with some flashbacks. Navigating through previous self history as well as current climate is a major storyline in this book. Kaliyah is not only navigating the tough journey of being a black female in the predominantly white space of cinema, but she is also still dealing with the heartbreak that happened 7 years ago with her true love.

4.25⭐️ I really enjoyed this book, not the biggest fan of third act breakup, and wanted to know a bit more about Kaliya’s life in Hollywood towards the end of the book. It wasn’t an ending I was expecting, which is okay! But wanted a longer epilogue with her and Danny’s life. Also, I get the ending, but I do wish she could have worked in the movie.

If you’re someone who love film and tv, wants to work in that industry (screenwriter, director, producer, etc.), or just love romance with representation, this is the book for youuuuu.

Ariel writes the perfect love story between an aspiring producer and a B-List director and screenwriter that decides to try again at love, even though they were in denial and obstacles (count your days, Celine). I like how she didn’t rush into immediately putting them back together as we have seen in a lot of stories and just let it build up. Kaliya had every right to be worried about going back to Danny after everything he did when his father passed, even if she had to overcome her personal woes. Danny was at genuinely sorry for what he did and held himself accountable throughout this.

Only issue I had is even though she would’ve gotten blacklisted, she should’ve had Neha beat Celine’s ass and if anything, Eric looks even more shady because how do you let a studio rewrite your best friend’s script behind his back and not tell him? Sounds like to me he was in on the deal too, but he escaped before the exposé happened..
