Until I read a Kennedy Ryan second chance romance, I had never thought of how the “great love” you choose to have is a love you can lose and have to find your way back to. Well I am here now having an absolute blast. Kaliya and Daniel’s chemistry was delectable that I could practically eat it off my kindle. I was screaming “Real Yearners are back!!” in my head the entire time. I was more than happy to experience them finding each other again.

I loved that we got two love stories. Lowkey, I could argue three if we consider all timelines. This reminded me so much of the movie, “The Photograph” starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield. I feel like if you enjoyed that film, you’d also appreciate this book. I also enjoyed the fact that we are in the middle of a movie. And not only are we witnessing a love story, we are seeing creatives do the very thing that makes them artists. Including all of the triumphs and struggles that come with it.

Usually in the romance genre, I can easily predict the flow of the story. Which is why I was so thankful it didn’t follow the usual archetype of “Oh we can’t be together now? But we want each other?” . Which always  leads into bringing in a second lead to drive the plot until the main characters can be together. It felt refreshing to see everyone communicating ( eventually in some cases) and avoiding possible unnecessary misunderstandings. I will definitely be reading more of Myah Ariel’s work.

This fell short in so many ways to me. I both read and listened to the audiobook, while the narrator was great- I wasn’t a fan of the story.

I don’t like my FMC weak and Kal was too pressed for me. It’s clear she’s naive and sheltered and even after some lived experience- she still came across weak.

Not having dual POVs really ruined this. Because it really made the FMC look desperate. Danny wasn’t protective of her, he didn’t really seem to be pursuing her. Even after he was free to be with her and after his friend asked her out. He maintained a distance. One of two late night calls and one pop up doesn’t say anything. Nothing about his actions said he loved her as much as she did him.

Sorry- not a fan. I want my MMC down bad for the FMC and I want his perspective of things.

If anything, his mother is the only reason there was indication he was really in love with her. Also, I hated that the majority of the story, they were not a couple. Even in the flashbacks they weren’t a couple.

This was a pretty decent read, did I like the fact she accepted him back after he broke heart with that weak ass lie, no but everything worked out for the best of them. a quick cute read, reminds me of Reel
