It would be a lie to say I didn't expect more from this book. A lot more actually. Upon the opening of The Kill Order, and the observing of its characters/beginning plot it seemed a bit to much like James Dashner's plot to get more money, without any real passion in the story. For example some characters felt like walking stereotypes, (at first at least, as time went on they developed ill admit...if they didn't get cut off before that development) some characters felt as if their only real purpose was to fit the part the plot demanded...*ahem* Trina *ahem*. The plot, at times, seemed jagged, as if James just hasn't quite mapped it before hand. This is in an author can be produced very well, I've found, but at first at least it wasn't here. Of course though, as time went on I dropped a good amount of the skepticism and found myself quite engaged in certain scenes. Suspense was high, and predicting the end of the book never felt like an easy task. I can honestly say though the last few chapters are guaranteed to have you glued to the pages, and I do wish I could say that for all the book as well, but I can't do that so easily. At this point in the book the seemingly cheep money making plot fades away and leaves you with a enjoyably horrifying tale. The Kill Order was a decent narrative in explaining the events of The Maze Runner series and I would advice previous readers of the series to take caution and lower your expectations a notch. In addition I wouldn't fail to add to just sit and enjoy the ride Mark takes to save his friends and accomplish a greater unseen goal and just how far it'll test his limits and sanity. You may be skeptical at first, but if you give it a chance you may be moderately-and I would stretch it for some, to say thoroughly-pleased upon its closing.
(I also do believe the Epilogue could've been better)

i know it's done in a lot of fiction but the excessive use of "the soldier" to refer to alec made me insane, like just say his name please!
maybe i should've realized deedee was teresa but i don't think i realized they were taken by wicked that young
anyway, overall not as interesting as the series itself, but maybe i'll enjoy the other prequel more? though knowing how the series ends wrt thomas, maybe not.

I'd give this book 2.5 stars just for the last sentence. Otherwise I would have rated it 2. The last sentence is the only thing that strongly ties the prequel into the rest of the series. I don't know why Mark had to have dream sequences to remember things when he didn't have his memories swiped. Why didn't Dashner just start The Kill Order in the subtrans? Over all there was so much action that I was bored. The only thing I took away from this series is that the government is evil and they got what they wanted. I don't think this necessitated 4 books. The Kill Order was kind of a waste of time.

I feel like it shouldn't have had to take all the way to this book to answer simple questions put forth by the rest of the series. That aside, this wasn't bad. The book kept a reasonable pace, giving information in a timely fashion (something the other books coudln't do.
After reading the series it was interesting to go back and see what life was like right after the flares and the beginning of the virus. I became really entrenched in this series. I really liked the end of the world by solar flares, it is a possibility.
