Fun to see some of the beginning of the maze runner world. I mean, reading them all in a row you can see the formulaic bits, but it's still fun.
This is the story of how the Flare virus came to be. It's very gruesome and graphic so I'd advice against young readers. I don't want to say much more because I'd prefer not to spoil it, but it definitely gives some background to the maze runner.
I only gave it 3 stars because I honestly wasn't as invested in it as I wanted to be. It was a struggle to push through reading it. Not sure of it's because I'm not typically a prequel type of person, or if the writing was just less in this book than the original trilogy.

Yeesh! The constant nail biting action was just too much. My gosh, what these characters endure. None stop fighting for survival was almost too ridiculous. Very interesting premise though. Very dark and very violent.
It was really good, but didn't explain WICKED enough for me.
