Not one of Asmiov's best books, but it's certainly a worthy read. The plantation and slavery metaphor is handled adroitly enough, though it may have been seen as more ham handed at the time (especially since Asimov never bothers with physical descriptions anywhere else). The science is outdated but wasn't completely impossible to believe at the time of publication, so we can cut him some slack there. It's actually a pretty good thriller - if it were written now, or had been in the 80's, it would have been restructured in sequence of events and would feel 'tighter' by today's standards.

This one took longer than expected. Perks of being parent to a one year old.
I really enjoyed this one. Even though many of the twists in the middle of the book were kinda expected. The ending was very unexpected, sciency and gratifying.

An Asimov gem. Poignant for issues of today even though it was written in 1952; trace amounts of the kinds of cultural norms of that time (particularly with regard to gender) were actually handled with surprising skill, all things considered. Mostly, this was a quick reading, surprising mystery set among the developing galactic empire. Can’t wait for the next in the series!

Asimov is a good writer. He allows you to really get to know the characters. Other than that though, the story wasn't particularly compelling.
