So this is a preview of "there are trans people here", so IDK how to rate these 2 books separately, but i will say the preview is way more dysphoric than the full-length.

so this full length one where a lot of the increase in hope seems to make a lot of ideas of a t4t city as imagery. i don't think i can say outloud an encounter i had while reading one of the poems in this book, but there was a connection made that made me think i need to recontextualize some things that i thought of during my life.

so while it's beautiful in the sense of black lives matter statue art replacing colonizer statue art, i guess my mind went to: whose going to police the gender to make sure everyone is trans in a certain space? practically, it can go wrong very quickly, as the book "abolition feminism now" warns against.

anyways, the author's from chicagoland so i probably can get less alienated from the context of this imagery.

So, on the one hand, I truly appreciated the emphasis on trans joy throughout these poems, highlighting the beauty of being trans, the richness of trans history, and celebrating all things trans. As Melt points out in their afterword, a lot of trans literature can be bleak; understandably, considering the violence and injustices trans people face. And I appreciate that they assert, “Now, I need trans joy. I need to know trans joy exists in order to imagine myself living in the future.”

On the other hand, I didn’t feel particularly drawn to any of these poems. I think the focus on euphoria was wonderful, but I didn’t vibe much with the style of the poems themselves and found them a little repetitive.

Read for the Sealey Challenge.

I like how this collection highlights trans joy. So much of the trans narrative we're fed centers around dysphoria and ignores euphoria. Joy is an essential part of envisioning a future.

I felt that it got a little repetitive at times though.
