I bloody love this book!
Based in the 90s Mina travels to New Orleans where her sister has moved to after their Mum abandoned them both. Mina’s sister Libby works in a haunted Mansion based on horror films, including Child’s Play, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elmstreet and Interview with the Vampire. It just happens that the very handsome man playing Lestat is Libby’s roommate, making him Mina’s new roommate. When someone starts replicating New Orleans myth murders, Mina and her friends are drawn into the dark underworld they never quite new exsisted.
Amy McCaw does a fantastic job of keeping you on your whist drawing you into the 90s nostalgia, this book is for us fans of 90s Horror Movies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries and The Orginials. This has very quickly become my favourite read of the year.
It was full of twists and turns, some of which I really didn’t see coming, vampire lore, horror films and a sisterly bond repairing itself along the way.
I cannot wait to read the second installment of this and hopefully many more to come!
fast-paced
Instant 5 stars for me! This book was everything I’ve ever wanted and more! Not only is our main character from Whitby right by where I live but it is set in New Orleans which is one my dream places to visit! So this made the the visuals of this book absolutely perfect for me, I could picture everything so clearly like it was just a movie.
It was so fun and fast paced and I read it so fast which I’ve definitely needed recently. There was not a single thing I disliked about this book, and I honestly think this might be my favourite book of 2022!

This was a fun little romp! I'd only heard good things about it, and I'm glad to see that it held up to the hype. I do think that some of the 90s film references got to be a bit much; after a while it felt like there were so many being shoved in there like a quota was trying to be reached, and it took me out of the story more than it immersed me. I also feel like there were one or two plot points that don't make a ton of sense but it's forgivable, particularly given that this is a YA novel. All in all, I did enjoy this a lot and I'm glad I picked up a copy!
A charming story packed with blood, boys and pop culture references galore. The main character and her sister were extremely compelling and gave me complete Summers sisters vibes. Can't wait for more!
