Ah, Dennard truly hit her stride with this installment. New characters and different perspectives add richness to the tapestry she is weaving.

Most times the second book in a series falls into the trap of 'filler' and 'fluff' with very little substance. Though I could tell this book was setting up for something big in the next book, there was still action and adventure in this book all its own. I can't wait to see where this story goes!

Admittedly, I wasn't 100% on board with the first book in the series; some of the elements of the story (i.e. threads) were unfamiliar to me and thus hard to keep up with. I picked up this second book only because I knew it would be reasonably interesting, reasonably quick read and was DELIGHTED to be shoved right into the action. It took me off guard at first, but goodness did I end up loving this book. It has it's flaws in execution, but I loved the three different story arcs (each in their own way). Overall, I think this is a 4.5! Excited for the rest of the series.

This series is excellent. Yes, I took a break and now it seems like I almost took a year to read it, but that’s definitely not due to this book being boring or anything at all. It’s not you book, it’s me. I seriously cared about each character (but let’s be honest, I’d read an entire book about just Aeduan and Iseult as well, no doubt). Even Vivia and Caden, who both really annoyed me in the beginning, became favourites. This was a fantastic book and buddy reading it with Kimberly made it even better.

4.5 stars. Initially I didn’t like reading from Vivia’s POV and wanted to skim through it so badly lol. But I’m glad I didn’t because I ended up really liking her character. Also, while I LOVED Merik last book, I wanted to skim through his chapters too because it didn’t seem like the Merik from the last book that I fell in love with! But then we find out why he doesn’t seem like himself too, so I’m glad he wasn’t just a different character without explanation lol. LOVEEEEEE AEDUAN!! And love Aeduan with Iseult <3. Also, I love Caden too lol. Think that there may no longer be a Merik and Safi and maybe we’re going more towards a Caden and Safi? Not too sure but I’m really hoping Merik and Safi get reunited in the next book because they need to know they’re both alive and I love them together. But kinda loving Caden and Safi together too lol. Can’t freaking wait for the next book lol. My thoughts are literally all over the place xD.

Told in alternating viewpoints from Merik, Safi and Iseult’s separate journeys, fans of this series will be delightfully surprised to see how the story plays out and our favorite characters grow. Although the three are separated most of the book, readers get the opportunity to know everyone on a much more individual level. But that ending sets up what should be a great next book.

The Witchlands series continues with Aeduan’s story, Bloodwitch in 2018.
