Good story and well-written, but the heroine was so shallow and immature that I could hardly stand her. She seemed more like a 10-year-old than a 17-year-old.

Heartbreaking read about an impulsive 17 year old girl named Lotte (Charlotte) who tries to do the right thing. But doesn't think things through. Her rash decision to help a young Jewish friend during WW2 in Germany sets off a horrible chain of events. It's a fast read about being a teen and what growing up during that time (especially when you opposed the Nazi's) was like.
Lotte finds her strength and learns a painful lesson.
It's a sad but meaningful coming of age book.
