Okay, I've worked out when I like a Paulo Coelho book and when they leave me cold, and it all comes down to whether the author inserts himself as the main character or not.
Aleph which I read recently, he made himself the main character, he kind of came off as a creepy old man and I did not enjoy the experience. In this book, he lets the fictional characters tell the story and explore the themes he wanted to cover and the result was a more enjoyable, readable experience. It is told as a series of excerpts from people involved in the events of the story, the main character, and subject of the story does not address the audience directly, which works well. Anyway, the book is fun, Coelho doing what he does best. One for fans of his work.

pretty cool spiritual book but a little uninteresting and clearly this woman was mentally ill like come on

I picked this up simply because it was in the apartment where we're staying in Sydney, and because… hey! I have to read Paulo Coelho some time!

It's an interesting way of writing a story— the book is compiled from an arrangement of transcriptions of cassette tapes recorded after the death of the main character, Athena. Every viewpoint character is simply a way of fleshing out Athena, her life, and her lessons.

Suffice it to say, there are lessons in this book, but I'm an impatient person by nature, and I wanted to find out about Athena's death, thus skipping over a great deal of good quotes that could sum the book's teachings up in my hurry to find the end.

There are plot twists in this book. Things you wouldn't expect and things that are a bit sad. But it's a portrait of a life, and within the portrait there are brush strokes of wisdom.

Love simply is.

I had high hopes for this book as The Alchemist is one of my favourite books and such a comfort read whenever I feel lost in life. It only made the disappointment greater. The main character is highly unlikable and unrelatable, everything felt shallow and preachy. It was like reading an essay in disguise and it truly didn't resonate with me. I gave 2 stars only out of my respect for the Alchemist but I won't be reading any more books from Coelho.

DID NOT FINISH

I finally finished reading this book. I didn't enjoyed it that much just like The Valkyries. Maybe it's really not my thing. I don't know.
