My first Dickens. Very much enjoyed being transported into the world of Victorian London with all its grime and bustle. Will definitely read more of Dickens' work!

I know this book is supposed to be one of the greatest but I was not expecting this. This book was boring, boring, boring. My stepson had to read it for 10th grade literature and I figured since I'd never read it, I would read it with him. I could not wait for this book to be over with. It just did not resonate with me, they way I expected it to. The book was tedious and to me everybody was whiny and had the "poor, pitiful me" attitude. Was not impressed.
I've been wanting to read this book for quite some time, Charles Dickens is one of my favorite authors and Oliver is one of the most famous characters in literature. This is certainly not Dickens' best novel in my estimation, but it was certainly entertaining and standard for Dickens' narrative style-my favorite feature of his writing.
This story features Oliver, mostly. My biggest gripe with the story is that Oliver gets lost in his own story near the end. I believe this is mainly related to the fact that Oliver is generally boring. As likable and nice as he his, inspiring those who meet him to love him instantly. He is BORING-he ALWAYS does the right thing, ALWAYS has the best intentions, and ONLY has nice things to say about people. As a result, Dickens follows the thread of other characters, whose actions are instigated by Oliver.
The other characters are very engaging and gritty in true Dickens fashion, as is the London that he constructs. And the master story is very well constructed, the "big reveal" is exactly what I hoped for-everything ultimately fits together incredibly well, and the reader is rewarded with a cosmic justice that is generally available in Dickens' literature.
I recommend this book to all fans of Dickens', English literature, and those looking for a solid story that is well constructed. Though not Dickens' best novel, this is a solid read and an excellent novel.

A window into poverty and crime in Victorian London. Surprisingly ironic and sarcastic. In terms of story structure, toothpicks and glue and convenience are the foundation. It was a serial after all.

Gostei bastante, por algum motivo estes clássicos são intemporais!
A forma como o autor escreve parece que estamos a ouvir uma história. Foi a minha primeira leitura da obra de Charles Dickens e para já aprovadíssimo.
