My favorite things from this book . Addition = complexity , subtraction = simplicity and the human race loves to worship complexity while paying lip service that simplicity is what we want and need . Unfortunately my own work experience leads me to the same conclusion . I also have to agree with his take on Nietzsche "Whatever does not kill you will make you stronger" , until it does kill you!!! Antifragility is a good thing in moderation as Aristotle states but I got the consistent impression that the author would like to knock down Aristotle from his pedestal . His well meaning advice that people need to spend more time with the classics is timeless . And I completely have to agree with him about the various people who having spent time in government now are scheming to work around the same loopholes that either they created or well acquainted with . After the financial crisis , I read about a citibank trader who received $300 million bonus whereas in Germany , not only were the executives forced to return the bonuses but there was talk about forcing them to return their salaries as well

I didn't like the first chapter enough to continue.

This is one of those books that says that mental illness is fake. Its also a common business self-help book that has one not very interesting idea that it beats to death for 400+ pages.

Сама по себе мысль тривиальная, жутко утомляют многочисленные ее повторы.
Но довольно много автор рассуждает, в стиле "застольного разговора", о своей жизненной позиции по совсем разным вопросам.
Что зачастую выглядит провокационно и даже вроде бы глупо. Но, если начинаешь копать глубже, то с удивлением обнаруживаешь, что это не столь однозначно. Например, надо ли прикладывать лед после травм. Давно убедился, что умные люди часто задают вопросы, которые на первый взгляд кажутся наивными и глупыми, но при углублении в которые можно осознать много интересных вещей.
Так что при общей жуткой занудности, думаю, я не бесполезно потратил время на ее прочтение.

Wow I wasn't expecting this book to be the way it was. I love the polar reviews that it's getting. I found myself hating and loving parts of it too, similarly to the A-word [a:Tim Ferriss|14901716|Tim Ferriss|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]' book [b:The 4-Hour Workweek|368593|The 4-Hour Workweek|Timothy Ferriss|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442957271s/368593.jpg|1885647] (which I also gave four stars somehow). Nassim is a unique character. A modern day philosopher. He comes across as a very controversial, arrogant jerk and many other curse words but he's also pretty intelligent, passionate and makes really good points. Speaking of curse words I loved that he edited them out in the audio CD. Excellent work, I tip my hat to that. It's tough because I can't label him and place him in a nice little box. When I finally think I know him and got him cornered he escapes again. But I do know his favorite word is heuristic. So at least I got that.

Basically something is antifragile if it stands the test of Time.
Many of his claims are against common beliefs and it's tough to say if he's right or just dead wrong. such as the automation of airplanes are under-challenging pilots and making them too comfortable while they fly, resulting in issues.
What is this stupid Black Swan he keeps talking about? I wanted a simple synopsis of his other book [b:The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable|242472|The Black Swan The Impact of the Highly Improbable|Nassim Nicholas Taleb|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386925471s/242472.jpg|2157806] because I didn't read it (And won't until I can find it on audio at the lie bury). And who is Fat Tony? He kept talking about him. The only Fat Tony I know about is sung by Paul Simon in this song. And finally who is Ball? He kept saying for Ball's sake. I didn't understand that. Did he mean Baal? Is that his God? Speaking of God, I'm baffled that this guy is a Christian. That's pretty admirable.
His hatred towards [a:Thomas Friedman|14951546|Thomas Friedman|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] is amusing. But how was he responsible for starting the Iraq war in 2003? I didn't quite understand that.
His quick rant on George W Bush was retarded though when he said that he didn't serve in the military. Uhhh did you check Clinton and Obama? Those two didn't do jack for military service, Bush actually served. Why didn't you point them out stupid?

It was too hard to grasp any organization in the book, and it felt like a long ramble.
Still helpful to view the world and yourself with this perspective though.

Awesome. In addition to the learning involved, reading Taleb is just plain enjoyable.
