I remember reading and loving this book 30-some years ago. Still holds up for me as I make my way through the Castle Rock stories.

Like the main antagonist, Leland Guant, King winds up the reader, building tension and sets us off. Once the characters start going at each other the story just flies along leading to an epic showdown.

Loved how this book brought in the lore of the previous Castle Rock stories, something I didn't pick up on my earlier read.

TW: dog violence, poor Raider.

Another thing, I don't know what's up with 90's King audiobooks, but this is another with odd sound effects and music (like Insomnia), totally unnecessary.

I picked up the book because the concept seemed interesting, however knowing how long the book is and the fact that things, only ~200pages started going off, I just decided that I'm not particularly interested in it. I do think this book does have compelling stuff going on in it, but it just belabors for too long and I'm just forcing myself through it which. Is not particularly fun.

Overall this book was pretty good. I've  enjoyed other Stephen King books a lot more though and found this one to drag a little. I still found it really interesting and can definitely see how it relates to our society. I hated the ending of this so much, it just didn't make a lot of sense to me. I think it might as I read more of his books but who knows.
