One of the most beautiful books I have ever read. The way it deals with death and grief in the context of this beautiful universe is poetically, vividly accurate. I hope the rest of the series is as beautiful!

On that note, though it's 4th in The Austin Family Chronicles, it worked well as a stand-alone.

Dain's review is simply that it was depressing. But I found it rooted in joy. Real joy.

Beautiful writing but the not quite 16 year old romances with 18 and 19 year olds is a bit cringe worthy today.

Still one of the best YA books of all time, I'd argue.

This is a re-read for me. I am reading through L'Engle's YA books in publication order. A Ring of Endless Light came out in 1980. I cannot decide which book I like better: A Wrinkle in Time, or this one. I like this book because it features dolphins so prominently, and like dragons, I can't get enough of dolphins.

All I will say is...the book lived up to the hype.

This was probably my #1 favorite book between the years of 1999, when I unearthed it in my school library, and, um, what year is it now? I'll love it forever.

What girl out there hasn't always wanted to be able to communicate with animals? The book draws you in with the concept of a girl being able to talk to dolphins, but what really stays with you are the complex relationships that are formed throughout the book and the rest of the series.
