I am back in love with Carlos Ruiz Zafon again!
I adored The Shadow Of The Wind:it’s up there in my all time favourites.... I found the second book The Angel’s Game only so-so (maybe my expectations were too high) & didn’t bother with the third. But this finale in the series has restored my faith.
It’s huge (800+ pages), it’s not perfect (some really annoying niggles like the only-sometimes restrictive limp!) and I officially hated Fermin but this did not detract from my overall enjoyment.
It’s a fast paced, page-turning novel of books within books, plots within plots and full of beautiful writing.
The ending left me wanting a bit but was still a good finish to this series.
Zafron is an absolutely amazing storyteller

Time to say goodbye to the Sempere family. What a series, so well-written! The past months, I truly enjoyed living in this world and discovering all the mysteries around the Sempere family. The first book is by far my favourite. What a masterpiece!
I enjoyed a lot the character of Alicia. I think it was a good inclusion in the story. Not too happy with the end. I didn’t like how disconnected it felt Julián (son) with Daniel. It was a bit off to me that he had such nice words to Julián (writer) and not his dad. I guess I expected a bit more of connection there. Furthermore, it was a bit sad to see Daniel become such a lame adult. But oh well, in general, great story! Loved how all books connected with each other. I’ll keep the Shadow of the Wind very close to my heart :)

Second best book in the series. It was mostly enjoyable to read. Some parts were left unfinished, and some were repeating themselves too much. But still nice.

Weirdly the third book was so much shorter than the first two, and felt like it was rushed, and then this was 60% longer than the first two, and just felt too long. This author has a sort of magic and having just visited Barcelona, it’s amplified! I just started to not care once we switched over to Julian’s story. I cared so much more about Alicia.

Este libro es una obra maestra. Después de haberme leído los tres primeros de la serie en estos últimos dos meses, la cantidad de piezas que tiene el puzzle es alucinante. La prosa es maravillosa, los personajes son ya amigos míos, y decir que este es uno de mis libros favoritos no le hace justicia. Qué gran tragedia que se nos fuera el autor tan pronto.
