This book is so well written and Cassandra Clare did a great job like always. I love everything about this book, the storyline, the amazing charachters and even if it was painful sometimes I love the feelings it gave me while reading it. If you haven't read it yet do it because it is so worth it! You'll read things you would never have imagined and in my opinion this book proves another time what a great writer Cassandra Clare is

I went into this book completely prepared to hate it, because of how underwhelmed I had been by [b:City of Fallen Angels|6752378|City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)|Cassandra Clare|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369452302s/6752378.jpg|6948844] and [b:City of Lost Souls|8755776|City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5)|Cassandra Clare|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369452311s/8755776.jpg|13629058], both of which came across more as money-grabs than books that were genuinely plotted out to be part of the series. But Cassandra Clare's writing is extremely addictive (even though there are parts that are really purple prose-y) and I couldn't help but to become engrossed in the story and to find out what Sebastian is planning and what Clary and her friends are going to do to stop him.

Sebastian, armed with the Infernal Cup, has managed to pit Shadowhunters against Shadowhunters because the Cup Endarkens the Shadowhunters. The Clave doesn't believe what Clary and her friends are telling them, because Shadowhunters have always been loyal to the cause and have never been pitted against each other before. But Clary and her friends know what they have seen is true and that the Clave is inadequately prepared against Sebastian and his treachery. Jace is still dealing with the shock of having been possessed by Sebastian in the previous book and has to fight his inner demons about who he really is and what his goals are like in life.

But Sebastian's plans aren't just restricted to Shadowhunters, his plans also impact the Downworlders. If the Downworlders choose to fight alongside the Shadowhunters, there will be terrible consequences for them and their kind. As the Downworlders grapple with what it would mean to live in a world without Shadowhunters, a great betrayal is revealed and Clary and her friends have to travel to what appears to be an alternate universe in order to stop Sebastian's plans.

City of Heavenly Fire is a great conclusion to the series. It's probably the first drama-free story with Clary and Jace, which is a relief because I wasn't sure of how much romantic angst I would be able to stand when it comes to their overwrought relationship. The side characters are also brought back in this book (though beware: some of them will die and it'll be pretty sad), such as my old favorites of Simon and Magnus, both of which play their part in the battle.
Spoiler I thought that the ending would've been a little more bittersweet if Simon's memories never came back to him though, but that's just me and my taste for tragic endings.

The action is quite fast with this book, as Sebastian's plans fall into place while the Clave is slow to react. A lot of sacrifices are made, with the Shadowhunters diminishing and the Downworlders having to battle their in-fighting while trying to determine what Sebastian really wants.
Spoiler I thought the Fae's betrayal was pretty well-written as well.
Most of the loose strings are tied up at the end of the novel, although I thought that the introduction of Emma Blackthorne and her adopted family was a very, very sneaky trick that's aimed to entice readers to read Clare's next series. And I'm kind of sad to say that it works, because I ended up really liking Emma.

And Sebastian continues to be a really compelling, if disgusting, villain. His relationship with Jace and Clary are all kinds of messed up, especially his obsession with Clary which was really gross and incestuous. I really wish that incest isn't a cornerstone in this series but it feels like it's a little too late for that now.

This books means so much to me - to much that I can no longer put it in words. It is nothing but a feeling, one of longing and joy. There are too many to describe but it is what I feel.

I wish I could read it for the first time again; like Simon learning about the shadowworld again.
