Took a break from piling-up library holds to take a chance on a debut ARC that I figured could be read in a day. I recognize this for the gamble it was. I like to live dangerously.

I liked the setup. She: widowed cookbook-ghostwriter. He: chef with dyslexia and ADHD. And it was fine. It’s not great, it’s not that deep, but it’s harmless. It for sure needs some editing.

The romance seemed both too slow and too fast. It was a decent book and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. Also the male audiobook narrator kept making swallowing noises which was immensely distracting.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC for my honest review.

The title is truly accurate, but when the slow burn ends the romance is expedited and the romance all happens very quickly. The Slowest Burn is cute summery romance with great characters and a fairly unique plot. I was looking for more character descriptions, but overall would recommend as a light and fun read!

A big shoutout to NetGalley & SMP for an eARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The cover of this one is what immediately drew me to it, it screams fall and love! How could I not?

Here’s what I liked about this one:
•The mental health representation in this one is incredible, our female MC is so understanding and patient once she understands our male MC and his struggles with anxiety and dyslexia.
•The rawness of what Ellie has been through and what’s she’s still going through felt so real.
•All the food references and recipes - made me want to cook and bake everything. I’m here for it!!
•There is a cat soooo duh

How to create The Slowest Burn; start with a base of opposites-attract, add a friendly helping of forced proximity, a splash of whitty banter, and pull it all together with the charming writing of Sarah Chamberlain.

The push and pull love story between Ellie Wasserman and Kieran O’Neill in The Slowest Burn will capture your heart. Ellie, a talented ghostwriter who is learning to find joy after loss, crosses paths with misunderstood, quirky chef, Kieran, who is out to prove he’s more than what the media has made him out to be. The pair are thrown together to write Kieran’s first cookbook.
The snark begins to flow the moment the two meet; I was at the edge of my seat awaiting the moment Ellie and Kieran would begin to see each other in a new light...when they would start to peel back the layers of one another and connect on a deeper, more emotional layer.

I appreciated the mental health angles thought out this novel, from both main character’s POV. It was exciting to experience the moments of self discovery alongside Ellie and Kieran, not to mention how freeing it was to see the pair break free of the “chains” holding them back in life.

I cannot express how easy it was to fall in love with Ellie and Kieran, and The Slowest Burn as a whole. I’m looking forward to what Sarah Chamberlain writes next and will be first in line to scoop it up!

A big thank you to Sarah Chamberlain, NetGalley, and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC

The Slowest Burn has one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen. Beautiful story too. Ellie is a ghost writer. Kieran is a chef. They are thrown together when she agrees to write his cookbook. I'll admit that at first I didn't warm to either mc. But this wonderfully told story uncovered many layers of these complex characters, and I started to love them. Ellie has a lot of grief to wade through, and we are right there with her. And FLOYD THE ADORABLE cat!!

The Slowest Burn by @sarahchamberlainauthor is really a slowburn. A sweet story that makes your heart go all over the place. The world isn’t perfect and people aren’t perfect, and this is all mentioned in this story. Loved listening to it

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and St. Martin's Griffith for this advanced copy! You can pick up The Slowest Burn on September 24, 2024.

Was this chef romance adorable and sweet? Absolutely. Was it also chock-full of grief and emotionally charged moments between loved ones? You bectcha. I really appreciated how Sarah Chamberlain handled so many kinds of moments between characters so well, including Kieran's struggles with his ADHD and Ellie's people-pleasing destructiveness. The way food played a role in their romance was charming, but it also hit home how much food is about people and community.

If you enjoy hate-to-love, fake-dating, and chef romance, this is your book!
