I had a fun lil time

1999 - On the night before Mav’s 13th birthday, Max and Blake come over for a sleepover. Max convinces them to sneak out for a late-night bike ride to the 7-Eleven ... and that’s when everything goes wrong. What began as a fun adventure quickly spirals into an event that changes their lives forever.

Present Day - Mav is still haunted by the events of his childhood, but now he has a plan to finally move on. It’s time to put the past behind him for good.

I tore through this book in a single day—it was impossible to put down! Full of childhood nostalgia (remember the millennium bug?), cosmic horror, and fun movie references, this was an absolute blast! Nick is an auto-read author for me—I can’t wait to read The Exorcist’s House: Genesis!

I have a really hard time suspending my disbelief when it comes to horror, especially the paranormal (which is not this books fault at all, it’s just a me thing).

Creepy as hell! Gave me that unsettled feeling that left me too anxious to dangle my foot off the bed at night. Stranger Things vibes for sure but with 90s nostalgia. Significant amount of gore and overall just an enjoyable, fast paced horror story. Would recommend to those that love the genre.

Finished this one & I'm starting to like Nick Roberts writing more, but still felt underwhelmed by it. Interesting concept though & definitely had its creepy moments.

Maverick revisits an event that happened on his 13th birthday, when he had a sleepover with his two best friends and they snuck out of the house at night to ride their bikes to a spooky tunnel. They all entered the tunnel, but only two emerged at the other side. And, that's just the beginning of what happened that night the lives of three families changes forever. Now, as an adult, Maverick is compelled to return and face "the dark forces that have lurked in waiting".

I found this coming-of-age novella nostalgic and creepy, yet it still managed to throw in a bit of humor. It was fast-paced, hooked me right from the start, and had just the right amounts of body horror and cosmic horror. The only thing keeping it from being a 5-star read is the ending was a bit predictable. This was the first book by Nick Roberts that I've read, and I'm now a huge fan. I look forward to reading his other books.

Had no idea what to expect from this book, and finished it in one sitting.

This was really 4 1/2 stars for me, I loved the concept and I loved the writing I just feel like I would’ve liked a little bit more in the ending. I just feel like a few bits needed more answers.
