Titling this book "Everybody is Terrible" would have been more suitable. Soap Opera like read includes stupid character name "Kaiser Brody". I was fine with it being a mediocre thriller but then the author gets on her soapbox about reproductive freedom and did it so poorly I wasnt sure if she was pro or anti but honestly it just had no place in this book. I loved "Things We Do In The Dark" from this author so this was a HUGE disappointment. If you like overly descriptive smut and trauma then this might be for you. I gave it one star for a plot that had potential but just went off the rails in the hands of someone who's writing wasnt up to the challenge.
Graphic: Child death, Death, Domestic abuse, Sexual assault, Murder, Gaslighting
Moderate: Incest, Abortion

While the idea was amazing and there was a lot of suspense and plot twists, there was a lot of unnecessarily long and irrelevant chapters that I think could have been left out. Also the whole time line of events jumping back and forward especially towards the end with the plot twist confused the heck out of me tbh (or maybe I’m just dumb

This book is messed up and quite graphic. From the beginning it grabbed me and I was totally engrossed in the story.
Three high school friends; one - the beautiful and popular girl goes missing. Many years later, her body is found and we are told the full story from various POVs and different timelines.

Well damn. Here we have a flawed main character who I really just... I don't know how to feel about her. She did a horrific thing at such a young age and the whole time you try to find some kind of justification/excuse for her actions based on who she's dating (she's 18, he was 21? I think? I can't remember now) but the more you read the less you connect with her when more of the truth is revealed. Which I guess is the point. You can go searching for the reasoning behind atrocious acts but some times people just do fucked up shit and there's nothing more to it.
Calvin is the horrible one but Geo is no better. God the mental images of some of the things in this are nauseating. Check your trigger warnings on this one please.
I liked Geo's POV and didn't think her in prison was going to be very interesting but it actually was. Kaiser (whose name sounds like a dog's name) was just kinda there? His affair was pointless, him being on this case did nothing either? Like there was no AHA moment for him where he kinda connects the dots with Georgina. He separately comes to a conclusion and then we don't see him again until the epilogue.
Idk this kinda just felt messy at the end when nothing but the actual crimes themselves were solved.
