Not perfect but...
I really liked this story and to me it feels like it was actually part of the Green Valley world created by Penny Reid. I have liked the other Smartypants books as well but they have a separate feel - this one didn’t. I definitely recommend.

Trauma porn with a side of plot holes. Does not live up to the Green Valley series.

What is hotter than a Viking MMA fighter? How about a Viking MMA fighter with a gooey center that just makes you want to squeeze him and never let go?
Gunnar “The Show” Erickson has come to Tennessee to train with his brother Cage, and he has one focus, to become the best MMA fighter he can be. But then after one trip to the ER, his focus definitely took a turn.
This is the second book in Jiffy Kate’s “Fighting for Love” series and this one really takes that seriously. It is a fight for Frankie to come to terms with her past and let go, but can she do it?
This is so much more than an opposites attract trope, the emotional growth that both characters achieve is substantial and it will simply make you fall in love with these two.
I really love this series and these characters, Jiffy Kate continues to give us just what we need, and it’s wonderful to be able to escape to Green Valley. Do not miss out on this series, no you don’t have to read them all, but why would you want to miss out on all of this swoon?

oh swoon!
This one will pull at your heartstrings. When two opposites meet and the attraction is undeniable but when her walls are impossibly high, the only thing a man can do is start to scale the walls. And climbing is what Gunner does best, well fighting really but it’s all the same, Frankie is everything he never knew he needed. She just needs to realize that too. After finally breaking down her walls, she slowly builds them up again. Beef Cale is about learning to trust, healing from the past and embracing the future.

Boy am I loving these Viking fighters.
Gunnar is a flirt but he is also a huge cinnamon roll. He is an MMA fighter who has come to town to train with his badass brother. HE is knocked on his ass when he meets a prickly nurse names Frankie.
Frankie knows that there is violence in her past, but she has no memories before age 7. Her mother will not discuss it but she knows it's wrapped up in the Iron Wraiths.
I loved these two. Frankie has a lot of baggage and she has has no time for this sexy man who fights for a living.
I had some major issues with her mother and the way the history came out. I sure hope Frankie gets to meet Scarlett and Beau & Duane.

I really enjoyed this book. I think it’s great that these cross over book are continuing. It gives me a chance to visit my old favorite while discovering new authors.
I did really enjoy this book as much as I did the other one in the series by Jiffy Kate, Stud Muffin. And I loved getting to know Cage’s brother, Gunnar. Of course, this book kind of had the Donner Bakery not quite as central as the other books in this series had, and I kind of think I want a branch off series for the Erickson brothers, because there are at least two more that I think we need! Maybe Vali will get the next book? Anyway, this book had some really great moments, and also some connections to the town of Green Valley that were really good and could lead to even more stories down the road. First off, Frankie doesn’t know who her father is, other than that he is one of the Iron Wraiths. And when we do find out who he is, man, that is intense, and there are other characters that I need her to connect with now!
After Frankie’s background though, and even me not having that same background, I totally agreed that having a fight as a benefit for a battered women’s shelter could definitely be a bit of a trigger issue for some people. That’s just me. I personally don’t have a problem with it, but could see why Frankie did, because it was my first thought when he came up with the idea, before she even had found out about it. There was also a mother and daughter that had checked into the women’s shelter and I kind of would like more about their story if possible. Maybe someone else is writing that in the Green Valley World?
All in all another great entry into this wonderful SmartyPants Romance world, and I look forward to more!

How they do it??? That’s my biggest question for this duo!
I loved Beef Cake sooo much! Although it’s a stand-alone book you should read first Stud Muffin because you get the secondary characters story in there and trust me, you will want that story as well

Frankie and Gunnar remind me a lot of Shelly and Beau from Penny Reid’s Beard in Mind: Frankie is dealing with some heavy trauma and Gunnar is sweet and patient and everything she needs to heal and feel loved. Except—Gunnar is a cage fighter and Frankie has an aversion to violence of any sort.
Only thing I would have loved to have seen more of is the Erickson family engaging with and rallying behind Frankie. I would have loved to have seen Cage and Vali get comfortable with hugging her and actually see them making her feel included.
<Spoiler> I did love how she never gives him an ultimatum to stop fighting and I love how they comes up with a system to expose her to his fighting that allows her an out when she’s uncomfortable.
