A cute little post-apocalyptic book with a refreshing LGBT spotlight.
The story follows Jamie and Andrew as they migrate through a post-apocalyptic world after a flu has wiped out 99% of the population.
The novel’s pace is really good. I wasn’t bored at any time and it progressed quite quickly. The novel deals with a lot of issues the pair come across and how they deal with them. It’s quite an action-packed story and is split between Jamie and Andrew’s first person POV. It was a good read.
However I did have some issues with this book. Firstly, it felt quite childish for the subject matter. It’s YA fiction and I felt the characters seemed younger than they actually were. I also felt the writing was average. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t breath taking or had any power behind it. I’m also sorry to say, I couldn’t stand Andrew’s character. He did get better as the book went on but he was annoying the life out of me for most of the novel.
I felt the novel lacked any exploration of another character that comes later in the book and their back story also which would have helped the novel. At time it just fell a bit flat.
Overall, it was alright, nothing to write home about but I didn’t hate it.
