Overall enjoyed it, but I wanted to like it more than I did. It was sort of like a “man writing woman” cliche in reverse with a rather specific Chicago cop trope.

I would give this a 4/5 on reading experience because I love a little cozy mystery set in rural Ireland. The story itself didn't really do it for me, but I definitely get why people love Tana French because the writing was beautiful too.

My only complaint about this book is that there isn't a 20-book series starring Cal Hooper that I can settle down with for the winter.

Couldn’t get into the book. Enjoyed the narrator— but I kept having to take breaks, and had to force myself to try again. Maybe I’ll try again— but there was quite the wait list so I wanted to return it!

This could have been edited down. The mystery and setting were interesting, but it took too long for things to connect and Cal to get anywhere. Lots of talking and walking around in circles. I did like the character, though, so I think I'll read the next book in the series.

Slower paced thriller. The story also is heavily focused on the characters which isn’t my favorite. Based in Ireland when an American ex-cop moves into town and gets to solve a mystery that everyone else has moved on from.
