A nice retelling with many interesting moments, but somehow it didn't keep my attention as much as I thought it would. Definitely gonna continue the series tho!
Not to sound crude, but I got this book solely because it was supposed to be a Reverse Harem Alice in Wonderland retelling. WHERE IS THE RH?? IS THE RH IN THE ROOM WITH US?? She boinks one dude, makes out with another and by the end of the book, we’ve only grazed the ✨idea✨ of a non monogamous possibility.
It also gave me the ick a little bit that a potential love interest was also in love with her newly deceased great-aunt. TBF, it doesn’t sound like anything happened between them but any type of familial sloppy seconds (whether it’s physical or emotional), is probably where I draw the line. And I didn’t even know I had a line.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate plot heavy, less boinking type of stories too. However, the characters just made no sense to me. Why is the mad-hatter not more… mad? How did anyone come to the conclusion that the responsibility of raising a whole child fell on him??
I love retellings, especially when the author brings a new element, new character development, but you have to at least stick to their original character presentations for that to happen.
Probably will not be continuing this series but may look into other titles by the author.

You know I love me a good retelling, especially Alice, but this one... there was too much focus on characters internal feelings. The actual interactions were fair at best. Also, the best thing about Wonderland retellings is the setting and world! Which was hugely lacking.
Eva Chase is so underrated. I’ve read soooo many of her series so far and every single one of them is so so good.
It’s almost comforting to come back to her series after going to others, because I just know it’s going to be a great book.
Eva Chase books are the absolute best for pulling you out of a reading slump.
Her books are all just so fun to read.
This was no exception, such a fun storyline, I can’t wait to finish the series ◡̈

Overall, I would give this book 3.5 stars. The story was a little generic, and the "roughed up" language and sex scene were so out of place with the rest of the writing that it felt forced, like the book was trying too hard not to be YA.
I listened to the audiobook, and the female narrator made all the male characters sound the same. The male narrator was better.
Overall, it was mostly enjoyable. But not a stand-out.

So I will confess that I love retellings with Alice being my favorite. I had listened to Eva Chase's Their Dark Valkyrie and liked it a lot, so decided to give this one a go (despite this awful cover) and I'm glad I did. I am loving this so far.
