Great in theory, but not necessarily in practice. Requires cooperation between all adult members of a household and caregivers, which was out main problem too begin with. Seems to actually be causing more problems since we started using the system than we had before putting it in place. On the other hand, we borrowed this book from the library, and I believe it could be more effectual if we had a copy permanently in residence at the house, so it will be purchased yet.
Colton's pediatrician recommended this book to us at his 18-month check-up when I told her that I've yet to find a form of discipline that works for Colton. She told me that Colton is still young but to be consistent and to read this book. I'm so happy I did! It's a wonderful book that gives terrific advice. I think the book is geared more towards disciplining kids who are around 4 years old and older, but the author gives you a great foundation to lay with young kids. Joe and I are going to start the 1-2-3 method with Colton now so that he hopefully will understand it sooner than later. I plan on buying this book so I can refer to it later also. I would recommend this book to all parents out there. It's a good one!
3.5 rounded up. Some great information but author comes across a bit condescending a lot of the time. I’ll let you know if it works with twin 2.5 year olds and a 4.5 year old. Lol
We have implemented a lot of the ideas of this book with our toddler. I think that the biggest thing is that consistency is key and to be ready to say 3 in any environment and follow through.

I actually put this book down but I will go back to it. I just think the latter half is geared more towards older kids. The first part ("stop" behavior) we'll work on now. A lot of what is said in this book makes perfect sense to me. It's easy to read, very straight forward and sets a tone for discipline that is unemotional and realistic.

Very similar material to the Parenting Without Power Struggles course I took. I really liked some of the material that was covered especially the four main roles as parents. There are some good strategies on rating the behaviour/issue on a scale of 1 - 100 to put things into perspective that is useful. Good reminders about active listening skills that can be applied to all relationships (not just with teens).
