Disappointed. First off beautiful cover. The prologue was so interestingly and beautifully written that I was intrigued but I really should stop reading books that span across time. Also a bit confused who this book was for. Half of it was adult fiction and half read like YA. I get it switched to a teenager but it was a bit jarring and the sentences were so choppy to convey a younger person I think but I didn’t like it.

This review is a reminder for myself not to read books spanning across timelines because I always get bored or like one timeline better. I played myself.

I really loved Lulu, her voice, her relationships, and especially her complicated feelings about her father. She was deeply compelling, relatable, and nuanced, and I loved her so much. Pilar, I had trouble connecting with and honestly her story was just so sad that I almost quit the book. I'm glad I stuck with it because the relationship between the two of them was fascinating, and for once I think this book did a pretty good job with shifting dual timelines. I thought the ending was delightful but I wish there had been more resolution between the two of them. Also, I live for Selena references.

Beautiful book about families and trauma. Rushed ending, however.
