Probably 2.5 stars - I didn't find this one especially compelling.
I'm still enjoying the Bosch series (am doing the whole Bosch Universe). This one was no exception. The story in this one was still a strong one in the series and kept my interest. And towards the end, part of the story, or Harry's methods were a step too far for me this time. He's done things off books before, but without any spoilers, it just went too far this time. It kind of bugged me.
However, I need to mention what I didn't like. Over the many books in a series, I want to see growth from the main character. Harry is trying to be a good father, so that's noted. But, his stubborness has just gotten worse, or he's gotten more pig-headed as the books continue. Gotta say, I'm not a fan. I get having a character with a code of ethics and holding strong to his beliefs, but Harry takes it too far IMO. And he always ALWAYS thinks he knows best and every one else is wrong. That's a theme I'm a little tired of listening to (since I do the audiobook versions). He's just a little too obstinate. This is not from something that happened specifically in this book, but has been my growing issue over several books now. So, while I still like Harry Bosch, I can't really say I love the character even when I used to earlier in the series.

Great slow burn with an excellent exciting ending.
Harry Bosch and a cold case about a murdered Journalist during the LA riots; I like where it twisted and turned.
Just what I expect from a Connelly/Harry Bosch story. A fun read, maybe not as many plot twists as I expected, great for escaping and passing time at airports.
Though certainly not his best Michael Connely managed to keep me interested as he hunts down the killer of a Danish journalist during the LA riots of the early nineties . Without Bosch,s investigation into the cold case the men involved in the rape and later murder of Anneke Jespersen would have remained unpunished. Bosch's relationship with his daughter is bought into the story to a small degree. Though Harry is getting older and nearing retirement I hope Connelly keeps us readers waiting for the next Harry Bosch novel.
