Written quite well with a detailed look into several characters of the empire. Watching "Star Wars: Rebels" along with reading this also helped my understanding of the timeline. I'm super excited to continue the Thrawn series! His character is such a badass!

Although not my absolute favorite Star Wars book I can already tell I’m in for the long haul with this series. I didn’t realize how lawful neutral rather than evil Thrawn is which sometimes is even more terrifying the narrator for this one was also amazing all the characters where so easy to tell apart (which is saying singing since there’s a galaxy full of characters) and this books for sure makes me feel “if you don’t think audio book reading is reading pronounce this name cuz I sure can hahaha) anyway highly recommend and I’m chomping at the bit to read the ascendancy series next!

Thrawn was massive amounts of fun and is perfectly positioned for a miniseries to be made of the plot. Eli's interactions with Thrawn was what made the book, but Arinhda also ended up growing on me as we watched her go to extreme lengths for power. There were moments that were a little too much hard sci-fi, and I wished we got more of the characters simply interacting, but I enjoyed all of it anyway.

Awesome audiobook. I like audiobooks that come with professional actors and sound effects and this one didn't disappoint. The story goes into the background of Admiral Thrawn and provides some real insight into his character and perspective. Very enjoyable!

Thrawn isn't a bad novel but I feel like it is suffering somewhat from knowing that there will be more. Different from the initial trilogy because it talks about the growth of Thrawn into the impressive Grand Admiral he is destined to become.
The fish out of water sections with Thrawn are all pretty good as he learns about the differences from his culture and applies what he learns to move himself up the ranks. The one thing that was slightly annoying was that the entire time he has an 'assistant' whom he is training because he sees something in him however he never shows any real aptitude. It is only ever after the facts are pointed out to him does he ever realize what Thrawn is trying to teach him. That character doesn't do it for me.
There is another plot about a character who moves herself up the ranks through Coruscant to become an important governor. Her story has moments where it makes sense but there are a lot of things that just kind of happen and they aren't explained very well. There are parts of the story that maybe should have been dedicated to building those out in a less than obvious way.
While I am interested in seeing where this goes I felt like there were some inconsistencies that made the book a tougher read at some points.

I enjoyed this. Quick read. Bit of a Plot twist - what you think you know isn’t the case. Pretty interesting to get the background on Thrawn and Governor Pryce. Lots of familiar characters.
