Struggled with this one. Maybe it was because I read the audiobook, but it had a quirky science adventure story feel (like Willy Wonka or 80 days around the world style), but also dipped into the horrors of slavery. Maybe it tried too hard to make the slavery storyline palatable, but in the end, it lost me along the way. I am not sure the author knew what the main purpse was by the end.

This is a new favorite. Just astonishingly good and all encompassing. Don’t know what what else to say other than I loved it.
