That was intense. I love this type of SciFi...real world dystopian is truly my jam. I found myself going between 3 emotions with this read: shock rage and utter sadness. Not one character won in this book. I was thinking about it from the moment I opened my eyes to the moment I slept. Lost a star because the pacing wasn't even, and some parts were underdeveloped, in my opinion. Overall, fantastic!

I really really liked the premise of the book. Mothers are scrutinised so much by society so I can imagine this kind of situation arising. However I do think it was dramatised too much to the point that it was unrealistic and far-fetched. The school and the lessons were very interesting and I like how the book tackles race and sexism as well, less is expected of fathers and that really shows in this book. I also did enjoy the main characters bond with the doll. The school just took up most of the book and I would have loved to see more of this dystopian world outside of this one scenario. Overall was interesting but maybe just not engaging throughout
