I enjoyed this book a lot, despite not being a fan of present tense writing in general. The characters more than made up for it, especially at points where you see either person making a major change in the dynamic. That being said, there were a few things here and there making me cringe, but it wasn't anything to make it unreadable, just a few eyerolls.

Was it cliche? Yes, very. Did I still enjoy it? Obviously. I’m just a girl.
It’s basically The Hating Game if it was set in a bookstore over the holidays, minus all the things that I was irritated by in The Hating Game.
I was giggling and kicking my feet in the air for the entirety of the book. Not joking, literally from the very first chapter.
I did guess the whole plot of the book, 15% into the book (wow, what a shocker) but I still loved the book.
[i just read the summary for the book after reading the book and “enemies to lovers” don’t lie to the people, this man was in love literally from the first page.]

This author was handed a bunch of awesome tropes and was told to make it work. AND THEY DID.
Grumpy/Sunshine
Academic Enemies to lovers
Wise Elder
Classic Lit Reference
Miscommunication
Then to wrap it all up having two main characters that represent severely ignored parts of the human condition.
Type 1 Diabetes representation
Autism representation
Demisexual representation
As an autistic demisexual… YES.
Plus we love a “Lets save a small business” trope!
Such a cute cozy holiday read in the middle of June lmao

i didn’t have a lot of expectations for this because novellas are always a hit or miss for me, but this was a pleasant read. i loved the various representations, and the struggles both characters dealt with were very relatable. their chemistry was really good too, and i loved the banter. that’s about all, though! i didn’t necessarily love it since the plot is super predictable but that’s fine for such a short read.

So, I don't know how I feel about this specific novella. It's a good one overall, but it was so damn predictable. Like seriously I knew from the start what was going to happen.
A friend of mine recommended it saying that since I LOVED the hating game, I'm also gonna love this one. I don't hate it, but I also don't love it. Like I won't be going around in circles screaming on top of my lungs that, omg I read the mistletoe motive.
I can see why people love this, I might also have loved it if I had not read the hating game first. Individually it had a cute storyline and a cute ending. But that was it, cute.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for cute books but those books also have something else in addition to that cuteness, like a plot twist or some essence of originality.
I was torn between giving it a four-star review or a three-star one. Giving a three-star felt unjust to their love, and giving a four felt unjust to my feelings. So I end up deciding on a three-star.
