The Mistletoe Motive is a holiday romance novella about Gabriella, a bookstore manager, and Jonathan, a co-manager with Gabriella, who are competing for the same position in the bookstore.
Gabriella and Jonathan work at Bailey’s bookshop as co-managers. Things weren’t going well at the bookshop, as the bookshop is not doing well financially. Gabriella and Jonathan agree that whoever sells the most books will have to resign from the bookstore when the new year arrives.
Gabriella is an autistic character; she is also a ball of sunshine and loves the Christmas season. She is a fun character. Jonathan, on the other hand, is a grumpy character who hates the Christmas season. There was a lack of communication between them because of this they were unable to understand each other and bicker a lot. Once they talked and cleared out all the doubt about each other, things went smoother for them at the bookstore.
Even though Gabriella and Jonathan are rivals and can’t stand each other, they share the same love for books and try to save the bookstore.
I like the bookstore setting and the Christmasy vibe in the book. The plot was fast-paced. I felt the ending was rushed and a bit cringy. The plot was very predictable. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

This was literally just The Hating Game. And I don’t mean it was loosely inspired, I mean play by play.
The dress, the dream, the competition, and I’m sure if I kept reading there would have been even more similarities. I was just not into it..

I’m counting this as finished because I’d rather watch a Hallmark movie than subject myself to the sex scenes in this book.
This kept me entertained for a while and even had some really cute moments but overall it was very mediocre. The author either should’ve done more with the plot and character development or just made the book a short story.
This happened to be a good way to fill my Christmas-y heart. If only it weren’t so trite!

Love, love, love, love, LOVE!!!! Oh my icy cold cynical heart unthawed and grew three sizes from reading this book. Jonathan Frost is a new book boyfriend for sure and I want to be best friends with Gabby. UGH THIS BOOK!! Immediate re-read. Will be a yearly holiday read for sure.
What I loved:
- Even though the complication was a bit miscommunication-like, they still communicated so well! And Gabby realizing there had to be more to it because it would've been out of character for Jonathan? Chef's Kiss!
- You've got mail retelling - UGH my millennial heart
- Hockey boys
- The MR DARCY HAND FLEX
- Save the bookstore trope (is this a trope? it is now, and it's a favorite)
- the SPICE *chugs water*
- every time Jonathan says her full name
- Neurodivergent rep done SO WELL
- DEMI REP DONE SO WELL
- Chronic illness rep
Okay, I'm going to stop because I could literally list out the entire book. This is a STELLAR holiday romance and everyone needs to read it immediately.
All of the stars and all of my heart forever.

Loved it was the last festive read of this year. Especially with the main female character is on the spectrum xx
