Not my favorite…

I’ve been a Natasha Madison fan for awhile now, but her last few releases have been kind of “eh” for me. This book continued that pattern.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Friends-to-Lovers

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Julia is a social worker, and when an accident brings her and a young child into the ER, she’s all too happy to have the help of friend and doctor Chase. As she navigates through emotional waters, she is happy to have Chase by her side.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I love how I feel like I have to explain giving a book a 3 even though it’s not THAT BAD of a rating.

The book had potential… all of the elements were there. But the actual romance of it was just lacking.

There was no tension between Chase and Julia. There wasn’t much of a backstory to establish their original relationship, and then as it went further ahead when things became romantic, there wasn’t any fanfare about it. And throughout the story there was very little drama or even big moments for the couple. There was not much hockey. It was a story that just kind of… was.

I’m probably going to continue reading, but I do want to note how convoluted this group is getting. It’s huge and there’s a ton of double or similar names. And the family tree list in the beginning isn’t cutting it anymore.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 2.5/5 🌶🌶

I love the Stone/Grant/Horton family. This was the first book in the new hockey spin off series and Chase and Julia were the perfect pair to start it off. It was definitely not a traditional sports/hockey romance and I actually appreciated that.

Chase was the youngest child of Matthew Grant, and the only son to stray from his father’s legacy to become a doctor instead of a hockey player. He now worked as the team doctor for the same team his brother and cousins play for so there were a lot of cameos from the other hockey series. He and Julia, who is the twin of his cousin Michael’s wife, have been circling each other since they met. But they’ve always stayed just shy of crossing the line.

Julia has her life go up in flames, and Chase becomes her rock. And their relationship is forever changed. They can no longer ignore their feelings for each other. I loved the evolution of their relationship. It was so seamless. Julia was someone who never let her feelings show, and for her to feel comfortable enough with Chase to let it all out in front of him really changed things. After that first tragic night, Chase showed his caring side to Julia and never looked back. When everything was spinning out of control, he was there, and he never left.

While this was a lot more emotional than I thought it would be. I really loved the funny moments. Matthew and Max are truly some of the best secondary characters. I loved their relationship with each other and with Chase and Julia. The way everything ended was perfect. I loved the decision Julia made about her job. And I’m so ready to see what happens next with Vivienne!

This was a great read! I loved the characters & the banter. I laughed out loud quite often because of the side characters in the book; they were hilarious. The chemistry between Chase & Julia was HOT! They were perfect together & I love how Chase pushed to show Julia they were IT for each other. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars though was because I felt there was a lot of unnecessary material. Some of it felt like it dragged on & a lot of it was repetitive from one chapter to the next. Overall, I did enjoy the book & I will definitely read the next in the series.
