This is a graphic novel that edges into the fine art world. It explores the idea of peaceful transitions through space simply for the beauty of moving through an environment. Taniguchi neglects the usual idea of story in favor of a calm journey. It's a weirdly bold move to commit so deeply.

My favorite kind of manga: quiet, beautifully drawn, and hold simple stories with much bigger meanings.

In the Expanded Edition there are 3 bonus stories at the end that follow different characters with darker themes. I didn’t like those, and felt they disrupted the lovely mood of the book, but since they aren’t part of The Walking Man story I’m just going to ignore them next time.
