love ittt so much , I just love anything about mythology and i would have never thought that i would get into Mayans mythology

It was amazing! I finished it in two sittings. This was fun fun fun and gave me a nostalgia for when I was a teen myself reading the Percy Jackson books. Plus the Maya mythology was so fun and interesting.
Would recommend to anyone

ARC provided by publisher. Percy Jackson fans will love it. I enjoyed it, though there are a LOT of characters to remember, and none of them seem to be developed very fully. I didn't find myself connecting to Zane the way I did to Aru Shah, for example. Still, I'm glad to see Mayan mythology represented, and there's a lot of good stuff here that middle grades readers will love!

I liked it!

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Zane lives with his mother, uncle and several family-like neighbors near a dormant volcano. Zane can only count on his family and loyal dog Rosie because everyone at school bullies him because he walks with a cane. Little does Zane know, but he is destined for greater things. Zane finds himself involved in a world-ending prophecy, when two terrible looking monsters show up at his volcano. Zane, the new girl from school, Brooks, and Zane’s family will need to come together to find the friendly Mayan Gods, Goddesses, and creatures to keep Zane alive and save the world.

This book was difficult to get into, it was slow moving. While it does read like a Percy Jackson book, it will not work as well for reluctant readers. I liked that it incorporated Mayan mythology, I just wish the story surrounding it was more interesting.

Percy Jackson but make it Latinx.

I had such high hopes for this book. Published under the Rick Riordan Presents imprint, I couldn’t wait to dive right into a new adventure based on a mythology I was not familiar with.

Unfortunately, I was left disappointed.
The book promised an exciting adventure from a new voice in middle grade.
Too bad the author decided to write her book following a step by step manual of the original Percy Jackson series.

The Storm Runner brought nothing new to the table. The characters were nothing but a more boring copy of the protagonists in Percy Jackson and the story followed the exact same path as The Lightning Thief.

I did like the bits of Mayan mythology the author sprinkled in, but it just wasn’t enough to keep me engaged.

The whole time I was reading this book, I just couldn’t shake the feeling I was reading the first draft of Percy Jackson.

Another thing I don’t understand were the Spanish words the author decided to randomly drop throughout the dialogue. I get the author is Hispanic and so are the protagonists. And that’s great. I would have understood the choice if the Spanish words would have been relevant. But it were just random words dropped in random conversations. It felt a bit jarring and gimmicky.

Overall, it was an entertaining enough story, but it wasn’t anything memorable.
