I think this was trying to say something that I couldn't get but it was an enjoyable read regardless kind of like sitting alone in a foreign cafe with a book and a coffee on a rainy day near the door so you feel the breeze on your exposed legs everytime someone walks in

Tågresor i Japan.
Regniga gator och gränder.
Besök i bokhandel och konstgalleri.
Höstpromenader genom parker, över kyrkogårdar och längs kanaler. t.o.m. "nästan turkosa" bambuskogar i dimmiga japanska berg. Det kallar jag armchair travel.

Typiska adjektiv som skapar stämningen:
gentle, fine, subtle, peaceful, soft, dim, dark,
beautiful, quiet, elusive

A short trip through the mind of the narrator disguised as a trip to Japan. This book deftly weaves through the inner thoughts of the narrator and their perceptions of the present. It doesn't hold your hand and instead presents the events to the reader and asks the reader to draw their own conclusions. I really like books that put the burden of interpretation squarely on the reader. It's short, but very efficient and dense in a very readable way.

this book has such a subtle, reflective beauty.  there were times i got a bit bored but the way Au weaved time and people together was so beautiful and almost magical! this was such a soothing read, a mix of negative and positive in a way that just equaled realistic so wonderfully.
