I wish I could start out every day with Gaiman's pep talks. I also wish that I could play them in their entirety in my English classes. There is so much beauty, depth, and inspiration within these texts. An absolute must listen for literary fans!

"Make good art."
Today was my 21st birthday, in the middle of lockdown. I got this book as a gift and I've read it - and I will read it again, and again, and again.
It reminded me why I love making art, and why I should do it even when I don't feel like doing it, and why I should remember to enjoy it, learn from it and share it with reckless abandon. What a wonderful thing to be reminded of when the world is so topsy turvy, and I've been inside for months, and I can't hug my loved ones on my birthday. Until things make more sense, at least I can still make art. And when they do make sense again... I can carry on making art. And it will be lovely.
Thankyou Chris Riddell and Neil Gaiman, for reviving my urge to create. The best birthday gift I could have hoped for!

Inspiring! Worth reading if you are a creator of any sort, but especially an aspiring writer!

This book was filled with what felt like sticky notes from Gaiman's desk that Riddell doodled on which _sounds_ great but didn't really have the desired effect. Too many obvious statements (only way to teach literate children is to teach them to... Read.. yeah...), a lot of statements felt not that thought through and the whole thing seemed thrown together at it's worst. But! A lot of it was still good and inspiring to me as an artist, and I enjoyed the little peek into the mind of a writer as great as Neil Gaiman. And also, as someone already said on their review, Riddell could stab me with a pencil and I'd say thank you.

Felt like I walked into a bookstore Cafe hosting an author who spoke about art. Or like things Neil Gaiman said about writing and art over time collated. The illustrations were beautiful and the vibe of the book was motivating for anyone creative.
