This is just stellar story telling. This is a world that feels so real. There just keeps being more layers to it. I love the sense of time she gives this world. Everyone knows that others came before them and were destroyed. The wreckage of past ages come and gone are always on the horizon.

It's a harsh world and quite often so are the people. They just feel real. There's complexity to them. You can find everything; good, bad, heroic, funny, brittle, sad, caring.

I love the scope of the story. I love the writing. I love the characters. I love the way she writes. When I started the second book in this trilogy, I had this feeling that I'd made it home after a long time away. Her style is just that distinctive and engaging.

With this book, I reached a point where it was just a compulsion to read through to the end. I'm going to be recommending this series till the end of time.

It's . . . odd. My partner and I both remembered a different ending to this one, so much so that I went and checked our print edition to see if it was different. It was not, but it goes to show that this series made such an impact on us that we discussed it enough to create our own personal lore around it. It really is an incredible story, from start to finish, with layers and layers of meaning and some of the best world building I've seen. I'm too emotionally wrung out to fully analyze it, but
just as the first book has a symmetrical arc, beginning and ending with the death of a child, this final installment has a poetic balance to it. Essun has seen two of her three children die and sacrifices herself to avoid that third death. In doing so, she becomes the second of three parent figures Nessun sees die, as Nessun is attempting to use the gate to save the third. This book is about so many things, and generational trauma is definitely one of them.

The ending was both shocking and not surprising. I was a little confused about the stone eaters switching names, but it didn’t really matter in the end. Overall really enjoyed this trilogy!

The final book in The Broken Earth Trilogy, and Jemisin does it again. The action just keeps coming. This book wraps up this series with a perfect bow. Essun and Nassun finally come back together to deal with the return of the moon. This trilogy was gripping, imaginative, and complex. The characters are intriguing and full of layers. Definitely worth the read!!
