This was a quick read. I enjoyed the story but I felt like it was more a minor mystery than a thriller. You’re unsure whether there was even a crime committed but then you also have a couple flashbacks letting you know something happened years ago but don’t know with who. It was an easy read but not particularly thrilling. I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed.
This book holds a lot of promise, but fell kind of flat for me. The plot itself is intriguing, and the beginning of the book pulled me right in. After the setup, there was a lot of irrelevant and repetitive filler that detracted from the mystery and Kiki's investigation skills left a lot to be desired. I enjoyed the small clues dropped throughout the story, but some of the red herrings were a little confusing and the final reveal felt a bit clunky and rushed. Overall, it was a fun and quick read.

3.5 stars // this book grabbed me from the first page and I kept trying to figure out “who killed Jamie?” Kiki does not believe that Jamie could have died by suicide knowing he had lots of plans and trips coming up. He was even about to adopt a dog! But since she broke off their engagement, their circle of friends didn’t seem to take her suspicions seriously. There were a few times when I kept thinking I knew who the murderer was but quickly would doubt that theory as the story progressed. I did find Kiki slightly annoying at times and there were times when parts of the story didn’t seem to make sense on why it was a topic in the story such as Kiki having been assaulted at a previous job. I also suspected Sam (one of Jamie’s close friends) because he seemed to always have theories for Kiki and it made me think he was trying to focus her attention somewhere else. I also felt the ending kind of wrapped up quickly regarding WHO and WHY they killed Jamie AND a past local girl who was murdered at a fair.

Not enough happened. Characters weren’t likeable. The ending was VERY anticlimactic.
The Last Time She Saw Him immediately sucked me in! I always enjoy a writer who really describes the characters and their surroundings, as it is fun to visualize in more depth.
The book opens with a murder of a young woman outside a fairground. Then it jumps to the main plot which centers around Kiki, who has been through a lot of change recently, including a move and a major break up from her fiancée. Now Kiki faces a new challenge, as her ex dies of a gunshot wound, and she feels pulled into understanding if he could have killed himself or if someone else may have been responsible. As she digs for answers, she also starts to realize there may have been a connection between the woman’s death and her ex-fiancée’s.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Great characters, loved the descriptions, a little romance, very realistic, all the pieces fell together very nicely.
Thanks so much to Net Galley and HarperCollins for the privilege of reading this page turner by Kate White

I feel like there was more swearing, which for a Kate White book is something I liked.
