BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME, a tantalizing psychological thriller by Mark Edwards-- which will take you down paths of terror, keeping you guessing, leaving victims dead at every corner—who is the real culprit behind this obsession? A powerful account of sexual jealousy and the power of this destructive emotion—the green-eyed monster on steroids, and a wacko sick murderer under disguise, who will do anything to take complete control.

Andrew has loved and lost in the past; however, he meets the mysterious, sexy, and beautiful Charlie. She is not very forthcoming about her life and her past. Their relationship moves quickly. She is a wonderful and creative lover, pulling him into her powerful web. However, she has a very jealous streak, possessive, and a temper. She does not like him talking with any other woman, and plans his every move. (sounds like my ex-husband)..

When Charlie’s obsession gets out of control and the women and people in Andrew’s circle begin to show up murdered—he begins to wonder who? Could Charlie have a split personality? He is even attacked involving a freak accident. Surely this woman he loves is not a cold-hearted killer?

An addictive and gripping thriller which keeps you guessing to the very end. I had a few suspects in mind for the murderer; however, I was wrong, as well. Edwards does an outstanding job of throwing you off track and holding the dramatic disclosure to the ending! Brilliant.

I loved the audiobook, as the narrator Napoleon Ryan, was exceptional, as loved the sexy accent for all characters, especially the naughty, Charlie. At times I thought Andrew must have the patience of Job, as most men would not tolerate a woman smothering them; however, guess for love and lust, you will put up with most anything to a point.

Fans of psycho thrillers, and authors Jennifer Hillier, Daniel Palmer, and Greg Iles will enjoy this thrilling intense ride.

This was my first book by Mark Edwards, and adding his other books to my reading list, as look forward to reading more by this talented author! (loved his inspiration for this piercing novel):

“After The Magpies was published, I realized I wanted to write something in a similar vein. As that novel was based on a real experience, I peered into my past to find something else to inspire me and hit upon a theme that I’d always wanted to explore in fiction: sexual jealousy.

When I was in my twenties, I lived with a woman who had a green-eyed monster inside her. Her jealousy made our life hell. Years later, I experienced jealousy myself and was shocked by the power of this most destructive emotion – and wondered just how destructive it could get… In The Magpies, the ‘monsters’ lived next door. In Because She Loves Me, the terror is even closer to home.”

this book was quite interesting. It started very slow and I almost put it down a couple times. I'm very glad I stuck with it though. the ending is worth ask the slow relationship building.

I did like Because She Loves Me. For the first three quarters. It started off fine. I was engaged and didn't want to put it down. But, the ending was... Not that it was just unexpected. But, why would there be two unhinged women in love with the main character? What are the odds? One of them never even gave Andrew (the main character) any creepy feelings. He didn't think of her at all. It was too much. The subplot with Sasha wasn't necessary. Andrew has had a rough time. When the book starts he just had eye surgery for a detached retina. He has one sibling. Tilly. She is in a wheelchair from an accident that killed their parents. He meets gorgeous Charlotte. Aka Charlie. He falls immediately in love. Charlie is edgy, intense an so is their sex life. But she soon shows signs of jealousy. Odd things start happening. Then horrible things start happening. To people he is close to. I would recommend. But only if you're willing to suspend belief for a while.

When Andrew meets Charlie he instantly falls for her. She is beautiful and funny and loves him just as much. Before he knows it, he's asking her to move in with him - everything is perfect.

But is everything as it seems? Andrew notices some things have gone missing, he's losing friends on Facebook, his pretty young cleaner is replaced with an older woman, an ex-girlfriend winds up dead. Charlie has shown she has issues with jealousy... but how far will she go to ensure she keeps Andrew for herself? Is she capable of murder? Or is it just a chain of coincidences... ?

Story/ Paranoia: Similar to The Magpies, the cause of torment and menace is a simple one. Supposedly all down to the jealousy of a girlfriend, which adds to the creepiness as it's something that could easily happen to anyone. I love how Mark Edwards can take a simple concept and make it grow to create such horror stories. Towards the end I was nearly shouting at people to listen to Andrew and stop the deaths we were expecting to occur as it all got heated. The one thing this does is get inside your head. Is Charlie who she says she is? Who is she? Is she lying? Is she responsible for strange things occurring? Is she mentally unstable? Is she just insecure? WHAT IS GOING ON?! It drives you crazy.

Twist: There is a twist in this and it is the reason why this isn't a 5 star rating... I didn't HATE the twist, which I won't mention as it is a huge spoiler. I just don't think it was necessary too much. It wasn't too awful; just before the twist occurred it was hinted at and I had a moment of calculating the possible plausible conclusions before the truth was revealed. I can see why people are annoyed at it - a solid story was built for everything that the reader knew to just be thrown to one side and BAM! something else with no warning... but a part of me liked it also. I liked it wasn't a complete predictable outcome and the reader was blind-sided by the events. I think my main issue is who was involved with the twist seemed off and it would have worked better if a different character was involved with a better reason...

Ending: I think the hardest part about psychological thrillers is constructing the ending. Do you end it on a high of the shock? Or finish off the stories of the characters? And to what extent do you follow their aftermath? Endings are delicate aspects of every story and I have to applaud this one. There was a suitable epilogue to the events and a nice ending that still leaves the reader wondering what truly occurs in the future.

Overall:

I think this is my favourite Mark Edwards read so far. Possibly because I can relate to knowing jealous people and having been jealous myself at times, it's nearly more scary as you realise "this could be me", be it for either Andrew or Charlie's position! Recommend this for anyone looking for something unnerving and different to your regular reads.

I have read a few of Mark's books and this is as good a read as any of them. If you read the Magpies and enjoyed it then read this. There's nothing better than a psychopathic jealous woman who will go to any lengths for the man she loves... Great book!

I really enjoyed the build up in this book, but the ending unfortunately fell flat. The writing it gripping and it is definitely a page turner. I just personally didn't like the direction the story went at the end.

I had to really convince myself to keep picking this one back up. Predictable and played out, it just became annoying after a while. Many seem to like it, but I'm not really sure why.

I absolutely loved this, right until the end. There was a surprise twist, which I didn't see coming - which was great. BUT the "who" didn't make sense to me. Everything else was fantastic, i just couldn't get my head around that one "little" thing.

Andrew Sumner was at the hospital when he met a beautiful and unique women names Charlotte. As Andrew and Charlie as she prefers to be called, begin on an intense and passionate relationship Andrew starts to notice things, someone is following him, things keep being moved round in his flat, this strangeness then starts to not only affect him but his friends and family too.

Is Andrew losing his grip on reality? Is Charlie really the women of his dreams or the stuff of nightmares?

Mark Edwards has done it again, a truly wonderful book. Full of twists and turns you do not see coming. I was so sure I knew who was behind all the strange occurrences affecting Andrew but boy was I wrong, I wasn't even close. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and even my wife who isn't a big reader found herself staying awake at night to listen to it with me.

This book was so well written which of course I wouldn't expect anything less from Mark Edwards, he's such an amazing author and is definitely my all time favourite author this year.

The characters are likeable, well written and realistic. They fit the storyline perfectly. The plot was captivating, unpredictable and kept me totally hooked. I couldn't stop listening. I now have the audiobook and the Kindle version and it won't be long before I buy the paperback to add to my collection.
